Turbine manufacturer Nordex has announced plans to cut jobs at its nacelle production facility in Rostock, Germany.
The number of layoffs has yet to be identified and will be subject to negotiations with the workers council, said a Nordex spokesman.
The manufacturer currently employs a 1400-strong workforce at the plant. Nordex has already terminated fixed-term contracts and will not renew deals with agency workers, the spokesperson added.
Nordex fabricates its larger turbines at Rostock mainly for the European market. Recent developments in the region left management with low sales expectations for 2018.
Nordex does not intend to shift production capacity to its Spanish facilities, the former Acciona Windpower sites, as they produce smaller turbines for emerging markets and the Americas.
“These markets are currently our drivers for growth”, the spokesperson said.
