A consortium including DNV GL has been selected by the World Bank to develop three new wind power standards in China.
The standards relate to offshore wind turbine support structures, substations and power cables.
The Norwegian company said it will also advise the Chinese government on project financing and risk management as part of the deal.
The other two consortium members are the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute and the East China Investigation and Design Institute, making DNV GL the only foreign company engaged by the government on standard setting.
“Standards are crucial to minimize risks to acceptable and bankable levels,” said Mathias Steck, executive vice president of DNV GL’s business in Asia-Pacific.
“Learning from the international experience, as this mandate is supporting, is a great approach to accelerate a successful industry,” Steck said.
