France’s renewables sector has welcomed the election of former Economics Minister Emmanuel Macron as the country’s new president.
Industry association SER wrote that it was confident the president-elect would address the needs of the sector.
“The programme of the president-elect, in the area of energy transition, continues the trajectory started 10 years ago and will allow our sectors, which currently employ 100,000 people, to continue their growth and industrial development,” said SER-head Jean-Louis Bal.
Macron has pledged to invest €15bn in the transition to a society based on renewables production.
He is planning to double the capacity in the wind and solar energy sectors by 2022.
The 39-year-old has promised to launch tenders worth €30bn in the areas of solar, tidal and wind energy.
Macron also intends to simplify the renewables permitting process in France.
