Four transformers for SSE’s 1.2GW Caithness-Moray transmission project have arrived at the Port of Scrabster in Scotland from Sweden for delivery to the Spittal substation at Achanarras.
The transformers, which each weigh about 170 tonnes, will be transported to the substation by haulier Allelys for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) and its lead contractor ABB.
The deliveries will take place on 16, 21 and 31 May and 5 June, SSE said.
SSEN project manager Brian Wilson said: “Every stage in the journey of these transformers has been carefully planned, going back to the earliest stages of developing plans for the new substation.
“Once they arrive and are installed on site, they are expected to play a key role in the network for decades to come.”
