Dutch outfit Alfen claims to have switched on the first project in the Netherlands that combines wind power with a battery storage system.
The 1MWh storage system is located at C-Wind’s Giessenwind project, which consists of three turbines alongside a highway.
Alfen said it is currently working on other projects that connect its storage system directly to renewable energy projects.
“The pressure on the grid is reduced, and at the same time, the generated energy can be sold at the most profitable moments,” Alfen’s Andreas Plenk said.
