Acciona has switched on Spain’s first every hybrid plant for storing energy in batteries that was generated by a grid-connected wind farm.
The plant’s storage system consists of two batteries and is connected to a 3MW AW116/3000 wind turbine.
One fast-response battery can maintain 1MW of power for 20 minutes. The other, slower-response battery, can maintain 0.7MW of power for one hour.
Both lithium-ion batteries feature Samsung SDI technology and will store energy produced by the wind turbine when required.
The turbine is one of five that comprise the Barasoain experimental wind farm, which Acciona has operated since 2013.
