Injury rates in the offshore wind sector have come down slightly, though the number of hours they have lost has edged up.
Last year, the industry’s total recordable injury rate fell to 5.52 from 5.99, according to the G+ safety initiative backed by the Energy Institute. The lost time injury frequency rate increased to 1.98 from 1.93.
There was a total of 987 reported incidents last year, which factored into TRIR and LTIF calculations that also drew on data around total hours worked, lost work day incidents, restricted work day incidents and medical treatment injuries.
“I am pleased to see a reduction in the overall TRIR number reported, but it is important to understand the reasons behind these numbers in order to identify where the risks are presenting themselves,” G+ chairman Jonathan Cole said.
More specific information could help the industry decide whether it needs to respond with new projects or work streams, Cole said.
