European ports have formed a joint initiative centered on capturing more business from the booming offshore wind market.
The Offshore Wind Ports Platform, launched today by WindEurope, aims to improve communication lines between ports and the industry and show how ports can contribute to cost reductions.
“With a decline in offshore oil and gas activities, ports are shifting focus,” WindEurope chief policy officer Pierre Tardieu said. “The offshore wind sector is an interesting and fast-growing market for them.”
Ports these days are offering testing, training and hosting facilities for the offshore market, Tardieu said, making them natural hubs for industrial activity.
Current participants in the platform include the Port of Esbjerg (pictured), Green Port Hull, Groningen Seaports, Atlantic Port La Rochelle, Port of Amsterdam, Port of Den Helder, Port Oostende, and Renewable Energy Base Oostende.
