German manufactuer Senvion has confirmed its long-standing plan to launch a 10MW-plus offshore wind turbine.
“The model is still in a planning phase but we will unveil more details at London’s OWE2017 event next month,” said a Senvion spokesperson this week.
He added it was likely some manufacturing work for the 10MW platform will take place at the company’s production facilities in Portugal, where a €50m extension to the 3MW factory at Oliveira de Frades is to be completed this autumn.
The plans for the 10MW machine were first revealed in the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS in March.
The world’s largest offshore wind turbine at present is the MHI Vestas V164, which can run at 9MW in certain site conditions.
