The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has assented to tidal developer Ocean Renewable Power Company’s intention to relinquish the site licence for its Cobscook Bay project in Maine.
ORPC told the regulator it does not intend to relicence the project beyond the current expiration date of 2022.
The developer said tidal current velocities at the project site are inadequate to justify pursuing a commercial licence.
ORPC installed a 150kW TidGen device at Cobscook Bay in 2012 becoming the first grid-connected commercial tidal power plant in the US.
