NextEra Energy Resources and Entergy have broken ground on the 81MW Stuttgart solar center in Arkansas.
The project, which is to be located seven miles south-east of Stuttgart, will cover 475 acres and consist of more than 350,000 photovoltaic solar panels.
An affiliate of NextEra Energy Resources will build, own and operate the project, which is expected to take nine months to complete.
Entergy Arkansas will buy the electricity generated under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
About 250 jobs will be created during construction, the companies said.
The project will also generate about $8m in additional revenue for Arkansas county over its operational life.
Entergy Arkansas president and chief executive Rick Riley said: “This project allows Entergy Arkansas to diversify our power generation in the state and provide our customers with access to emissions-free, renewable energy at a good price.
“In NextEra Energy Resources we have an experienced partner to build and operate a project that will deliver tremendous value to our customers.”
