Revenue at Canadian Solar was $677m in the first quarter of 2017, down 6.2% from $721.4m in the same period last year.
Module shipments were up in the first three months of the year at just under 1.5GW compared with below 1.2GW last year.
The drop in revenue resulted from a lower average selling price for modules.
However, revenue was above projections for the period, which were between $570m and $590m, Canadian Solar said.
The company made a net loss of $13.3m in the first three months of 2017, compared with income of $22.6m in the same period last year.
