Denmark-based consultancy Cowi is to design India’s first offshore wind farm and provide capacity building to the Indian authorities on the preparation of an offshore wind policy.
The demonstration project will be located off the coast of Gujarat in northwestern India, although the size has yet to be determined.
Cowi will provide consultancy and engineering competencies in planning and design – including electrical design, conceptual design of the foundation based on geotechnical studies and metocean analyses, as well as layout of the wind farm.
The policy side of the job will look to work out the size of subsidies, electricity costs, and connection to the power grid. Cowi will also help the authorities build an offshore wind knowledge bank.
The planning phase will take three-and-a-half years, after which the project is to be put out to tender and the new policy implemented.
The project is expected to be completed in 2019.
