Vattenfall has chosen Klintholm harbour in Denmark as the operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.
The Swedish utility said five Danish harbours and one Swedish harbour were in the bidding to host the O&M facility.
One of the reasons Klintholm’s success is the transport time between the harbour and project site off the Danish coast, Vattenfall said.
The decision to choose Klintholm, which is located on the Danish island of Møn, was taken jointly with Siemens Gamesa.
Siemens Gamesa will supply 72 turbines each with 8MW capacity to the project, which is slated to be in operation by 2022.
Project-related activity at the harbour will be noticeable from 2020, Vattenfall said.
Kriegers Flak project director Niels Bjært said: “We are pleased with the positive and open cooperation, we have had with a number of harbours on Zealand in Denmark as well as in Sweden.
“Ultimately the choice of service harbour went to Klintholm Havn, with one of the parameters being the short transport time from the harbour out to the offshore wind farm.”
