Fugro has won two contracts with Orsted to carry out geotechnical investigations for the 1GW Bay State and 1GW Ocean Wind offshore wind projects off the US east coast.
The DP2 geotechnical drillship Fugro Explorer has been deployed to undertake the survey work, which started at the end of November and will run for three months.
Laboratory testing and reporting services will be carried out at Norfolk and Houston in the US and at Wallingford in the UK and Nootdorp in the Netherlands.
The Bay State zone is located 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, while Ocean Wind is 10 miles off the New Jersey coast.
Meanwhile, Fugro has also finalised the divestment of its non-core trenching and cable laying business to Global Marine Group.
Global Marine Group has acquired the $65m business in exchange for an equity stake of about 24% and a one year secured vendor loan of $7.5m.
The transaction provides Global Marine Group with 23 employees based in Aberdeen, the multi-purpose MV Symphony vessel, two Q1400 trenchers and two remotely operated vehicles.
Fugro will also become the preferred provider of marine site characterisation and asset integrity services to Global Marine Group.
Global Marine Group chief executive Ian Douglas said: “We believe this acquisition has two key benefits, meeting the needs of our customers, while at the same time strengthening GMG’s market position in offshore power.”
