Offshore wind farms in Germany are feeding green electricity to the country’s grid on 363 days a year, according to a Fraunhofer IWES report commissioned by the German Offshore Wind Foundation.
A similar report in 2013 by IWES said wind farms would deliver power on 340 days annually.
The increase is based on revised assumptions about the spatial distribution of the wind farms, the performance characteristics of the machines and better simulation models, the authors said.
They recommend that if Germany wants to achieve the acting government’s zero-carbon emissions target, it needs 25GW of offshore wind by 2030 and 57GW in 2050.
