Siemens has received an order from grid operator EWE Netz to supply key components for a new shore power supply system in Cuxhaven, Germany for ships servicing the wind sector.
The berth will be located next to a new factory for wind turbines operated by Siemens Gamesa.
The plant will have a power output of 630kW and supply ships with electricity during their lay time, allowing them to turn off their diesel generators and lowering exhaust gas and noise pollution.
The Siharbor shore power system is expected to go into operation by April, 2018.
