The US Department of Energy is funding a four-year research and development project addressing offshore wind energy challenges specific to the North American country.
The DoE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy is awarding $18.5m for the US Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium, with a further $2m coming from offer DoE funding centres.
The project aims to bring together a consortium of stakeholders looking into R&D issues related to wind farm technology, wind resources and physical site characterisation.
It will also address installation and operations and maintenance and supply chain technology solutions that help to reduce the cost of offshore wind in the US.
