Vattenfall has added two new recruits to its senior management team that will support its work developing “the next generation of offshore wind farms”.
Jacob Nørgaard Andersen will begin work for the Swedish utility on 1 January as head of engineering. He joins from Siemens Gamesa where he was chief executive in North America.
Andersen said he will “challenge” turbine manufacturers to develop “future wind turbine solutions”.
“Traditionally, developers have said to the suppliers, we need components X, Y and Z. What does that cost?”
“Looking forward, we must turn the process around and ask what technology do we need in order to make the most of an offshore wind farm? Can you invent that? I am looking forward to develop that approach further,” he said.
Mats Vikholm meanwhile has already took up a role as head of wind farm design. Vikholm was previously senior vice president at Orsted.
Vickholm will tackle the “entire value chain” on offshore wind projects at the company.
“So far, the main focus has been on optimizing the technology – the turbines. The next step will be to optimize all aspects of the project, not least the cooperation between developer and suppliers,” he said.
