Alliant Energy has acquired the 170MW English Farms wind project in Iowa from developer Tradewind.
The wind farm, located in Poweshiek County in central Iowa, will consist of 69 turbines.
Alliant Energy will build and own the project, with major construction to start in 2018.
Alliant Energy Iowa president Doug Kopp said: “The benefits of this project help customers through reductions in emissions and fuel cost.
“It gives landowners lease payments to help on the farm and it helps communities through increased local tax revenue for schools and community services.”
English Farms will generate local tax benefits of $47m and payments to landowners of $12m over the next 30 years, the company said.
