The Port of Corpus Christi in Texas has had plans approved to build a 10-hectare laydown area for storage of wind turbine components and other breakbulk cargo.
The approval comes as the port expects to handle for the first time more than 3000 wind turbine components, such as towers and blades, by the end of 2017.
The port dealt with 2603 and 2875 components in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Port Corpus Christi chief commercial officer Jarl Pedersen said: “Port Corpus Christi is proud to offer customised logistics solutions for the fast growing wind energy industry in North America.
“We also recognise the continued innovation in the wind energy industry and need to make infrastructure investments allowing us to offer competitive solutions for transport of ever larger wind turbine components.”
