The UK onshore wind market has a new player from today with the launch of Ventient Energy, which has a portfolio totalling 690MW.
Ventient is owned by institutional investors advised by JP Morgan Asset Management and brings together 15 wind farms formerly owned by Zephyr and 19 by Infinis.
The formation of the new company was first reported in the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
The new company is headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has a staff of 44. Thirty-one are based in Edinburgh, with the remainder located throughout the UK managing wind farms.
Ventient Energy chief executive Scott Mackenzie said: “We are excited to introduce Ventient Energy, now a major player in onshore wind energy.
“We are the largest non-utility owner of onshore wind in Britain. The UK onshore wind market is fragmented, and Ventient Energy owns only 6% of market capacity at present, so we see plenty of opportunities to grow our installed capacity through consolidation.”
