France has announced that preliminary impact studies will be launched next year for future commercial floating wind tenders off Brittany and in the Mediterranean Sea.
The country is aiming to have up to 2GW of floating offshore wind energy installed by 2023.
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe also said at a conference this week in Le Harve that environmental studies and a public debate would kick off in 2018 for the Round 3 500MW Oléron offshore wind farm.
A so-called competitive dialogue is expected to start early next year for the project, which is planned to be located off the Atlantic coast. The project is scheduled to be up and running by 2024 at the earliest.
