A Senvion-led project has applied to the EU’s Horizon 2020 initiative for backing to help support the development of a 10MW+ offshore wind turbine.
The Realcoe project brings together a consortium of partners, including utility EnBW and research organisations such as ECN and Fraunhofer IWES, with the aim of developing, installing, demonstrating, operating and testing a prototype turbine in a realistic offshore environment.
Senvion chief executive Jürgen Geissinger said: “The contribution of the European Commission would kickstart new collaborative partnerships and begin the transformation of the offshore wind energy sector towards a truly digital industrial sector.”
Realcoe already has 150 participants from nine countries collaborating on the project, Senvion said.
