Siemens Gamesa has joined forces with Taiwan Ports Corporation to develop offshore wind infrastructure in parts of Taichung harbour.
The non-binding memorandum of understanding clears the way for investigation of potential manufacturing sites for components as well as office facilites, staging areas, pre-assembly and load out.
“Signing the MoU demonstrates our strong desire to contribute to the development of offshore wind in Taiwan. We fully believe in the potential of this emerging market,” said Siemens Gamesa offshore chief Andreas Nauen.
The manufacturer has also opened a new office in Taipei to ramp up offshore activities across Asia excluding mainland China. It joins offices in Japan and Korea.
Siemens Gamesa installed Taiwan’s first offshore wind power plant in 2016, the 8MW Formosa demo (pictured).
