Siemens Gamesa has inaugurated production at its newly expanded nacelle plant in Taichung, Taiwan.
While construction at the plant concluded at the end of last year, the plant officially entered production today in the manufacture of the latest 14MW turbine nacelles for Taiwan’s offshore wind industry.
The plant is the first outside Europe to produce the SG 14-222 DD direct-drive turbine nacelles.
Technicians at the plant went to Europe for training before bringing that knowledge back to the Taichung plant.
The new plant will be instrumental in manufacturing all of the 73 turbines for the 1022MW Hai Long Offshore Wind project, Siemens Gamesa said.
“The expanded Siemens Gamesa nacelle plant we opened in Taichung today underscores our commitment to a clean energy future in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region,” Executive Board member and Executive Vice President of Wind Power Vinod Philip said.
“Our dedicated team of almost 200 colleagues at the Taichung factory is working tirelessly to drive wind energy forward and bring renewable energy to the region.”
