Vestas has installed the first V116-2.0MW prototype turbine at the Hovsore onshore test site in Western Jutland, Denmark.
The turbine has 57-metre rotor blades that increases the swept area by 11% compared with the V110 2.0MW model, the Danish manufacturer said.
It added that the hardware has annual energy production improvements of over 4%.
Vestas chief technology officer Anders Vedel said: “Building on the tried and tested technology of the most widely applied platform in the wind energy industry, the V116-2.0MW optimises performance and lowers the cost of energy in medium- and low-wind conditions.”
