Dutch gas grid operator Gasunie is joining the North Sea Wind Power Hub consortium which seeks ways to develop large-scale sustainable energy system in the North Sea.
The other members of the consortium are Dutch/German transmission operator TenneT and Danish counterpart Energinet.dk.
The companies said the collaboration is a “key step” towards the realisation from 2030-2050 of a North Sea wind power hub that could support 100GW of offshore wind farms.
The hub would consist of so-called ‘power link islands’ interconnected to several wind farms and countries bordering the North Sea, the partners said.
