EDF Energy Renewables has installed the final gravity base foundation at its 41.5MW Blyth offshore demo project off Northumberland.
Tugs towed the Royal BAM fabricated structure into position 6.5km offshore on Friday morning, before it was filled with water and submerged.
“Ballasting operations are continuing to ensure each foundations correct placement on the sea bed,” EDF told reNEWS.
“Onshore beach preparations have also begun ahead of cable laying works to the first of the GBFs, which should begin in the next couple of weeks.”
VBMS will lay 14km of Nexans-made cabling using vessels Ndurance and Grand Canyon, while Jan de Nul jack-up Vole au Vent is set to start installing five MHI Vestas 8MW turbines at the project next month.
