LEEDCo and Fred Olsen Renewables’ 20.7MW Icebreaker offshore wind project in Lake Erie has taken a major step forward in the US.
The Ohio Power Siting Board has found that the freshwater wind farm’s application is “in compliance and ready to be processed”.
OPSB officials will next issue public notice and review of the application wil continue.
Progressed hinged on a memorandum of understanding regarding monitoring protocols to determine any impacts on fisheries and aquatic resources and birds and bats.
Icebreaker is expected to feature six MHI Vestas 3.45MW turbines.
“We are confident that our application demonstrates conclusively that our offshore wind demonstration project will not only have minimal adverse impact on fish and wildlife but will also create jobs, boost the local and regional economy, and provide a local source of clean energy,” said LEEDCo president Lorry Wagner.
