Historic England has commissioned Cooper Marine Advisors to undertake research into how tidal lagoons would affect heritage assets in and adjacent to English waters.
The ‘Tidal Range Developments: Considerations for the historic environment’ report will inform Historic England of issues arising from an anticipated strategic programme of tidal lagoon development outlined by the Hendry Review released earlier this year.
The quango said it would use the work to help their engagement with project developers and relevant government departments and their agencies to ensure the interests of the marine historic environment are addressed appropriately in any upcoming studies.
Historic England project officer Gareth Watkins said: “We believe this research is both timely and important to advance ahead of the anticipated response from the UK government on the Hendry Review.
“Historic England will be able to engage with a suitably informed view on the multiple tidal range schemes in and adjacent to English waters”.
Cooper Marine Advisors is collaborating with Wiltshire consultancy Fjordr for the project.
