Innogy and Dutch water association Noorderzijlvest have signed an agreement to develop a three-turbine wind farm on a sea dike in the Netherlands.
The test project will be built on the Oostpolderdeich in Eemshaven and will be the first wind farm to be erected on a dike, Innogy said.
Noorderzijlvest board member Eisse Luitjens said the organisation has been working with Innogy since 2011 on developing the project in order to ensure that the wind farm does not impact the dike’s main function to protect from flooding.
Following testing the partners have concluded that turbines can be installed on the dike safely, Innogy said.
