John Laing Group is acquiring a 90.5% interest in the 100.5MW Buckthorn wind farm in Texas.
The project will comprise 26 Vestas V126-3.45MW turbines with 87-metre hub heights and three V117 3.6MW machines with 91.5-metre hub heights.
NRG Energy is developing Buckthorn and will operate the project once it is operational in the fourth quarter of this year.
Construction financing and tax equity are being provided by RBC Capital Markets.
Buckthorn benefits from corporate power offtake agreements for up to 20 years, John Laing said.
The investment is John Laing’s first in a renewables project in Texas and second in a US wind farm.
