The University of Plymouth is to spearhead an initiative that will unite researchers across wind, wave and tidal sectors.
The £5m project – dubbed ORE Supergen – brings several separate Supergen research and development projects under one banner.
Project leader Deborah Greaves said that by working together the renewable sector could better overcome the “significant” obstacles it faces.
“The specific research challenges facing offshore wind, tidal and wave technologies are quite distinct, but by developing synergies and collaborations we can add to existing research and expertise,” she said.
The four-year project will be supported by government and industry and has bagged initial funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
