GE Renewable Energy is to install a pilot digital monitoring system at Fortum’s 127MW Höljes hydropower station in Sweden.
The APM Edge Analytics system, which is based on GE Predix Solutions, will be commissioned along with a ‘human to machine’ interface that will enable Fortum to view sensors’ data in real time.
The Höljes, Trängslet and Krangede hydro stations in Sweden and the Imatra plant in Finland will also be equipped with asset performance management modules for six months as part of the deal.
The modules – machine and equipment health and remote diagnostics services – will be installed on one unit at each power plant, GE said.
The remote diagnostics services module will ensure cloud data connection and cloud storage through Predix, the company added.
GE Renewable Energy chief digital officer Sanjeev Addala said: “Our teams have been working together for the past several months to identify new ways to enhance the availability and business outcomes of these plants.
“With APM Edge Analytics we capture key asset and operational data to gain improved visibility, and actionable insights, laying the foundation for strong execution.”
Fortum chief digital officer Per Edoff said: “Digitalization enables us to operate and maintain our production units more efficiently.”
