French developer Neoen is to supply electricity from its 196MW Bulgana wind farm and 20MW battery storage facility in Australia to local glasshouse farming outfit Nectar Farms.
The Bulgana Green Power Hub, as it will be known when built, will provide power to Nectar Farms’ expanded Stawell facility in western Victoria.
The 56-turbine, A$350m wind farm is expected to create 800 direct and indirect jobs during construction, with a further 19 created once built.
The hub has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Victoria for any electricity not consumed by Nectar Farms.
Construction of the wind farm is scheduled to start in September.
Victoria state minister for energy, environment and climate change Lily D’Ambrosio said: “It’s an exciting proposal that shows how renewable energy can unlock opportunities for large, energy intensive businesses, to create jobs and build a better future for regional communities.”
