Denmark’s LM Wind Power has completed installation and testing of a 66.5m blade for Hitachi, allowing the Japanese company to offer its 5.2MW wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 136m.
Designed for the offshore market, and suitable for low wind conditions, the blades were successfully tested on a wind turbine at the Kashima Port Fukashiba in east Japan.
The blades were manufactured at an LM Wind facility in Jiangyin, China and testing commenced in October.
LM Wind Power chief executive Marc de Jong said: We are very pleased to support Hitachi, a leader in the development of wind power in Japan, in this offshore development of a new rotor for their 5.2MW platform.
“We look forward to seeing the 66.5-metre blades generate clean, renewable energy in lower wind sites along the coast of Japan’s main island.”
LM Wind in March agreed to be acquired by GE.
