The Canadian province of New Brunswick has launched a request for expressions of interest for 40MW of small-scale renewable energy.
Utility NB Power invited local entities, such as municipalities, co-operatives and not-for profit organizations, to submit proposals for contracts of no less than 20 years. Public-private partnerships are allowed.
Hydro, biomass, wind and solar energy projects up to 20MW are eligible. Multiple projects totaling up to 40MW owned by two or more local entities also qualify if they are located on the same site.
The generation will be added to the transmission system at 69kV or above.
Expressions of interest are due by 28 April.
The projects are intended to help New Brunswick meet a 40% by 2020 renewable portfolio standard.
In 2016, NB Power received 23 submissions to a 40MW call for aboriginal-owned renewable energy projects. The utility has yet to selected any winners.
