A lightning strike has caused blade damage to a GE 1.5MW turbine at SSE’s 18-turbine Richfield wind farm in Ireland’s County Wexford.
The incident occurred at the 27MW site at around 9.55pm on 22 December, at which point the turbine was shut down.
In a statement, SSE said the area around the turbine was secured in line with its standard procedures and its service technicians are on-site to deal with the incident.
SSE said it is working closely with GE to carry out further assessment of the damage caused by the strike and to safely remove the damaged component at the earliest opportunity when weather conditions allow.
The wind farm near Bridgetown was commissioned in December 2006.
