Standardised practices, regulations and shared resources could reduce costs for UK and Dutch companies working in the offshore wind sector in the southern North Sea (SNS), a meeting of the SNS Rejuvenation Special Interest Group of the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) has been told.
Orange Nassau Energie production superintendent Martijn Hoefsloot told the meeting that the SNS was a “small basin with relatively simple operations” but with different working practices each side of the border.
Completely different models of the same work in one sea wasted resources and money and caused confusion, he said.
Real collaboration and changed mind-sets in the UK and Dutch industry were essential to bring change, Hoefsloot added.
Many companies wanted to collaborate but legal applications and frameworks got in the way, he said.
