The Carbon Trust has provided guidance for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on the deployment of measurement technology to generate data to improve project financing for future offshore wind farms.
The Metocean Plan aims to support developers and financiers with the deployment of floating lidar solutions, the Carbon Trust said.
The guidance covers all aspects of deployment including project management set up and operations and maintenance of the devices.
It also considers site specific elements, such as permitting requirements in New York.
The Carbon Trust said it transferred findings from its Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) programme in Europe to support the development of the market in the US.
OWA project manager for wakes and wind research and lead author of the guidance Michael Stephenson said: “Floating lidar is one of the cost reduction success stories in Europe and sharing knowledge on this type of innovation will be essential to drive costs down and accelerate the deployment of offshore wind in New York and other US states.”
NYSERDA is the lead agency coordinating offshore wind development on behalf of New York State, which plans to meet 50% of its electricity needs with renewable energy by 2030.
