Dutch outfit Van Aalst Group has deployed its Safeway motion-compensated access system on the Olympic Intervention IV DP2 vessel, which is currently chartered by Adwen for maintenance work on offshore wind farms in the German North Sea.
The 28-metre walk-to-work ‘Seagull-type’ system is able to compensate for wave heights of up to 3.5 metres on a standard 75-metre long PSV hull, the company said.
The gangway also incorporates a 3D compensated crane capability, with a separate winch to transfer up to 1000 kilos.
The Olympic Subsea vessel has so far carried out 851 people transfers and during 173 landings and 301 cargo transfers over 29 days, Van Aalst said.
Adwen, which is part of Siemens Gamesa, has used the Safeway system on a maintenance campaign at the 200MW Borkum West 2.1 project, followed by work on the 350MW Wikinger and 60MW Alpha Ventus wind farms.
