EDF Energy Renewables has installed the first of five gravity-base foundations for its 41.5MW Blyth offshore wind demonstration project off the coast of Northumberland.
A tug towed the second foundation into position 6.5km offshore on Sunday and the structure is due to go in imminently, the company said.
The remaining structures are at the Port of Tyne, where they are undergoing pre-ballasting with concrete before installation.
The ‘float and submerge’ structures were produced by BAM Nuttall at its fabrication base at the Neptune Energy yard.
Blyth will feature MHI Vestas 8.3MW turbines, which are set to be installed by Jan de Nul jack-up Vole au Vent later this year.
