DNV GL has verified a nacelle-mounted Zephir lidar at a test site in Janneby in Germany ensuring the unit is compliant with best-practice guidelines.
The guidelines have been developed in the EUDP UniTTe programmes, which are widely regarded as industry benchmarks for installations of turbine-mounted remote sensing devices, Zephir said.
The lidar was mounted horizontally on a raised platform 180 metres away from two reference met masts equipped with calibrated anemometers at DNV GL’s test site, located 20km southwest of Flensburg.
Tests carried out included verification of inclinometers, which are sensors that account for turbine sway and nod to ensure a true hub height measurement is reported.
DNV GL also tested availability – with the lidar achieving 100% availability – and wind speed comparison, Zephir said.
