The New York Offshore Wind Alliance has appointed Joe Martens as its new director.
He replaces Liz Gordon who is leaving to be executive director of corporate governance at the New York State comptroller’s office.
Martens has previously served as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.
The New York Offshore Wind Alliance is a coalition of organizations that aims to promote the responsible development of offshore wind for New York state. It is a project of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York.
Alliance for Clean Energy New York executive director Anne Reynolds said: “Joe has spent his very distinguished career making and implementing smart environmental policies and we are incredibly glad he will lead our efforts to bring the economic and environmental benefits of offshore wind energy to New York State.”
Martens said: “Offshore wind is the wave of the future and New York is poised to lead the nation in its development.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to help realize this vision and see New York reap the economic, environmental and public health benefits of offshore wind.”
