A development consortium led by Shell is seeking European Investment Bank funding for the up to 740MW Borssele 3&4 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
Partners in so-called Blauwwind Offshore have filed for an undisclosed amount of funding for the project, which is located around 22km off the coast in the North Sea.
The request is now officially under appraisal, according to the EIB.
The logic of the loan would be to “support EU and national targets for renewable energy generation and contributes to security of energy supply and environmental objectives”, said the bank.
In addition to Shell, Blauwwind partners include Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi. The wind farm is slated for commissioning in 2020 and will feature MHI Vestas next-generation turbines.
