RenewableUK and Scottish Renewables will today debate future opportunities for the floating offshore wind sector and how industry can work together to make the UK the centre for the emerging technology.
The conference in Glasgow will be the organisations’ first dedicated gathering on the subject and RenewableUK chief executive Hugh McNeal said: “Floating wind is a global opportunity that the UK must take seriously.
He added: “If we secure a commitment from government ministers to support the next phase of floating wind here in the UK, not only will we help UK companies gain knowledge and expertise, so they can compete abroad, but we will also be making a contribution to accelerating cost reduction, and securing investment in ports and yards around our coastline.”
The UK is home to Statoil’s operational 30MW Hywind Scotland floating demo and hosts plans for a number of additional projects.
