Allen Archaeology is soon to start metal detector surveys on the onshore cable route of Innogy’s 860MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm off the coast of Lincolnshire.
The surveys will be along previously identified locations and, depending on what is found, may result in some minor hand-trowel digging excavations in order to better identify any artefacts uncovered.
The Linconlshire-based company is already carrying out rapid walkover surveys at selected locations on the route to record any archaeological earthwork features, mainly related to any ridge and furrow surviving in pasture areas.
Local landowners have been fully engaged during the survey works, which is taking place where crop cover is low. The surveys have had limited impact on the surrounding environment, the developer said.
Allen Archaeology has been undertaking a programme of archaeological trial trenching since August along the cable route and site of the onshore substation.
