UK companies already provide nearly 50% of the total content of the country’s offshore wind farms, according to a new report from RenewableUK.
The report – ‘Offshore Wind: Regenerating Regions – Investment and Innovation in the UK’ – also notes that UK companies are exporting offshore wind technology to places such as China, India, Taiwan and the US.
It focuses on regions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, showing where projects are operating or being built or planned, R-UK said.
The study also provides case studies of companies in different areas – manufacturing turbine towers, blades, cables and other components, as well as designing, constructing, operating and maintaining projects.
R-UK chief executive Hugh McNeal said: “With publication of the government’s Industrial Strategy just weeks away, it’s clear that offshore wind can help to revitalise British industry.
“Already we see firms moving from traditional maritime and energy sector into the offshore wind industry, and increasing domestic manufacturing in the sector.”
