VBMS and Kintech Energy have developed a new solution for fixing and sealing subsea cables offshore that does not require toxic resins during assembly and disassembly.
The new ‘hang-off’ offers a “safe, rapid and reusable solution” when, for example, demounting a cable from a monopile or jacket foundation for replacement, the company said.
Previously, hang-offs were assembled using resin, which is often toxic and can be harmful to both human health and the environment, VBMS said.
The company added that Vattenfall is exploring the possibility of using the new hang-off at the 406MW Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm off the coast of Denmark.
VBMS managing director Arno van Poppel said: “As a total solution provider in the renewables sector, we continuously think of ways to improve safety and efficiency and to reduce the operational risk for our clients.”
